This is not just any oak tree but a tree that has stood for over two Centuries and is commemorated for it's 2+ Centennial Lifespan. It is awarded and recognized back in 1987 by the International Society For Agriculture as having lived here at the time of Signing of Our Constitution. The Tree Itself is Over 327 Years Old, WOW !

Notice how tiny the sign you see above looks in the picture below. Look At The Red Arrow & Example Below.Bicentenial Commemoration in 1987 by the International Society Of Agriculture.

The sign reads 1787 - 1987. For one to attempt to rewind in time to 1787 when this Tree was young and to think back of the events that might have taken place. One can only imagine ? It's a real major slice of American history and a real living fixture and even an Icon for many today. The Park was historically named The Elisabeth Ireland Poe Park but is probably much better known in modern times as the Big Oak Tree Park and is owned by the Thomasville Garden Club & Maintained By The City Of Thomasville.

Here is a Satellite Arial Photo of the Big Oak Tree in the park and you can tell it occupies a great deal of the block corner in it's spread. We have the streets illustrated to enhance it's placement for the picture.
